The mission of the Breast Cancer Resource Centeris to enhance the quality of life of people touched by breast cancer and to increase awareness and knowledge of breast cancer and breast health.
The Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) exists to provide support services that address the educational, social, psychological, and physical needs of those challenged by breast cancer, as well as to educate the public throughout our community about the importance of screening and early detection of breast cancer. The BCRC is not affiliated with any health system or health care provider and makes no referrals to medical professionals.
While concerned with the needs of the medically under-served populations in our area, the Center provides its services freely to everyone regardless of income level.
Our services include the provision of vouchers, in concert with the Health Department, for mammograms for women otherwise unable to pay for these exams. We offer outreach programs for any community organization, emphasizing the importance of screening and early detection. We offer support groups, one-on-one mentoring, customized exercise and relaxation classes, and breast prostheses and bras for breast cancer patients. Classes addressing the issues of hair loss and how to look and feel better while going through treatment are provided along with wigs and head coverings to anyone undergoing chemotherapy for any type of cancer. We offer a library and literature to clients that cover and array of cancer-related topics. All of our services are offered free of charge to our clients.
Most importantly, we provide a safe setting where compassionate staff members are able to let women express their concerns and have their questions addressed in a setting which is not hurried and where each client is managed as an individual with the respect and concern they deserve. Because no one should have to face breast cancer alone.
We strive to take our message to the community to ensure that women will have their needs met as they face the challenges of this devastating disease.
