the $20,000 a month to keep the center open.

'To be able to come here and be treated royally, which
is what it's like, is a major gift,' says [Dianna] Carlsen.

Our Community Outreach Workers genuinely care about people, are sympathetic to the plight of others
not as fortunate, and are dedicated to meeting the expectations and needs of clients as they develop
relationships within the community to promote breast health education and breast cancer awareness within
under-served populations of the South Puget Sound area. You may request any of our Community Outreach
Workers to attend your health fair, community event, church gathering, or private function as either an
organizational representative or as a breast health education presenter.  Contact the Center with the details
of your event.

Community Outreach Worker

"I grew up on a small farm in rural Minnesota where very early on I learned
the importance of community. Neighbors helped one another through joyous
times as well as through personal and farm-related losses. These experiences
prepared me for my 54-year career as a nurse. For the past thirty years I
have been engaged in community health nursing and education by teaching
nursing students. I retired and shortly thereafter found I had breast cancer
and was treated. Early diagnosis was the key. It then became very important
for me to help raise the awareness of breast health in women throughout
Pierce County by way of community education which continues to bring with
 it many rewards."
