Through refined informational gathering and focus groups, the Center has compiled pertinent information for the newly diagnosed woman with breast cancer and distributes these kits to breast surgeons throughout South King, Pierce, Thurston, Jefferson, and Kitsap counties. Included are a list of local support groups, books on nutrition and survival, a handout on lymphedema, a list of suggested questions to ask your doctors from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship, and a compilation of informative and helpful websites and help lines. Our best suggestion is to take the time to look through this packet sooner rather than later, per the feedback we've received from our clients. There is a coupon for the book Spinning Straw Into Gold that you can redeem at our Center and then take your Forza Coffee coupon next door to receive your free beverage, taking time to look through your support kit or the books you've checked out from our library.
Outreach & Education Program
Community Outreach Workers are available for breast health educational presentations, health fairs, farmers markets, church groups, and private gatherings.
Early Detection Program
Vouchers for free diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds for women under the age of 35 who are low income and un- or under-insured, and for men of any age who are low income and un- or under-insured, requiring a doctor's order or clinic referral. Contact the Center once you have obtained your referral and we will help you obtain a voucher for use at the Carol Milgard Breast Center.
We have a library filled with books, videos, DVDs, videos, and periodicals for your perusal. You may check out any item from the library for increments of one month. Some periodicals and publications are for the taking. We are always taking suggestions for our library and welcome your feedback on what we already have available on breast cancer, general cancer, diet and nutrition, exercise, alternative therapies, humor, and more.
